Since 1990, JEFCOED has honored fifth grade students as scholars who made a sufficiently high enough grade on reading and math test. The test used for the student performance is the ACT Aspire for fourth graders. One or the other score in reading or math must exceed standards and the remaining subject score can be in the ready range. In addition the student needs to be in good standing and recommended by the school’s administration.
There will be two evenings of celebration at 6 p.m. for each. Tuesday, November 1 at Hueytown High, Group II which consists of 11 western area schools represented and 176 individual students will honored.
Thursday, November 3, Groups I comprising 17 eastern area schools and 175 individuals to be honored will be at Pinson Valley High.
These students will become likely pool of Super Scholars who are sophomores honored for making a high grade on the SAT and who will probably be the district’s national merit semifinalists, finalists, who can become national merit scholars.
