Tannah Kirkland, a freshman at Pinson Valley High, has a simple and effective idea. She presented it at JEFCOED’s Leadership
Council March 15. The idea involves having a special refuge bench on the playground for any child needing to talk, feeling isolated, or being bullied. Other students will be allowed to then become a bench buddy to help the child by listening and helping him solve his challenge.
Tannah will help any principal wanting a bench get one and will dedicate her time in the summer to providing free maintenance of the bench. A bus driver friend of her is providing the wooden label called The Buddy Bench.
Tannah Kirkland is shown with all of her principals in the Pinson Valley feeder pattern. They are Christy Hamilton, Karen Jones, Susan Slaney, and Michael Turner.
